FRENCH FARMERS KILLED IN CLASH

BEET-GROWERS AND STRIKERS. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m. Chartres, (France), October 17. One man was killed and 30 were injured in clashes between beet-growers and sugar factory workers after a strike.

Nine hundred beet-growers and 1500 farmers were assembled at the town hall to hear a speech by the prefect when a procession of strikers, carrying red flags and revolvers and other weapons, approached. In the ensuing clash one farmer was shot dead and another, seriously injured, was sent to hospital.
