HELP TO PROSPERITY IN ENGLAND. The strides taken by Great Britain in regaining prosperity were discussed ■ by Mr J. Arthur Aiton, representative of the Derby Chamber of Commerce at the Congress of Empire Chambers, in an interview on Saturday. Two months ago, when the delegates had left England, conditions were most prosperous, he said. Great Britain seemed to have accomplished more in the direction of retaining prosperity than had any other country. The view that much of tlie increase in the absorption of labour was because of the increased activity in armament manufactures was put forward by Mr Aiton, who spoke of the tremendous increase in the volume of business handled by the many firms engaged in the manufacture of war goods. His own town of Derby was among the most prosperous in England, with an unemployed population of only 4 per cent., Mr Aiton continued. Mutual help among the nations was a necessary part of a return of Empire prosperity in full measure, he concluded, and he hoped that the congress would have done something in this direction.
