The final of the B grade championship of the Queen’s Park Ladies’ Golf Club was played yesterday afternoon, Mrs Willett defeating Mrs Clark, 1 up. The course was still heavy and rain fell during the last half of the match. There was little between the two players, but Mrs Willett’s steadier putting was mainly responsible for her success. They both began shakily, Mrs Willett winning the first hole .with a 6. The next two were halved in better figures, and Mrs Clark squared the match with a 4 at the fourth. Neither could get better than 5 at the fifth. The same figure gave Mrs Clark another win at Renown, and after the next hole had been halved in 6’s, Mrs Clark went to 2 up with a win in 6 at the eighth. Mrs Willett reduced the margin to 1 up with a sound '5 at the ninth, and made it all square with a 6 at Runway. The next two holes were halved in s’s and when Mrs Willett holed out in 6 at the 13th she was 1 up. But she had a bad time at Waihopai and lost it, and when she also lost the 15th to Mrs Clark’s 3 her chances did not look good. However, Mrs Clark could not do better than 7 at the 16th and Mrs Willett won it with 6 to square the match. The 17th was halved in 4’s, and Mrs Willett won a splendid contest with 4 at the last hole. Each player was round in 98. Draw For To-day.
