LAUNCH DRIVEN ON ROCKS
VESSEL COMPLETELY WRECKED. (United Press Association.) Christchurch, September 21. The Akaroa launch Wainui was driven on the rocks at Island Bay, a few miles outside Akaroa Heads, on Thursday night and was completely wrecked. The three occupants, Douglas Pool, Pat McGuire and George Hillyer, escaped, but they had a trying experience. There was a south-west gale blowing at the time. After the launch struck McGuire and Hillyer walked over the range to Wainui at daybreak and telephoned for a launch to go out and bring back Pool, who stayed behind to look after the fishing tackle. Pool was out in the snow and rain until eleven o’clock next morning. The engine of the Wainui was salvaged. _____________
