Mr R. Shepherd, of Dunedin, arrived in Invercargill by the midday express yesterday. Messrs A. D. Strachan (Dunedin), L. VZ. Penhey (Wellington) and C. A. Degennards (Sydney) and Dr T. McKibbin (Dunedin) are among the guests at the Grand Hotel.

Messrs H. Manson (Garston), T. Wing (Dunedin), S. F. Cowick (Christchurch), J. S. Learning (Wellington), R. Shepherd (Dunedin), A. N. Williams (Patea), C. R. Nodes (Dunedin), J. H. Barber (Christchurch), J. Davis (Wellington) and H. Graham (Dunedin) are among the guests at the Club Hotel. Mr R. P. Taylor, of the Railway Department’s staff at Gore, has received advice of his transfer to Invercargill, where he will take up his new duties this week. During eight years in Gore, Mr Taylor has interested himself widely in town affairs and has been secretary of the Gore Pipe Band, a member of the Fire Brigade and a Rugby referee. He was farewelled by the railway staff at a complimentary social, at which a presentation of a fireside chair was made.

Mr M. D. Clarke, who has been a member of the Invercargill branch of the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., for the past three years, has received notice of his transfer to the Western Australian branch of the company. His headquarters will be at Perth. Mr Clarke has been an active member of the Southland Rugby Referees’ Association, while Mrs Clarke is a prominent badminton and tennis player. They will have this week for Auckland, en route to Australia. Lieut.-Colonel G. Grattan, the re-cently-appointed Chief Secretary for New Zealand of the Salvation Army, accompanied by Mrs Grattan, will arrive in Invercargill by car this afternoon. Lieut.-Commissioner F. H. Adams and Mrs Adams, the territorial commanders for New Zealand, will introduce the new officers to Southland at a special welcome meeting to be held in the Citadel at 8 o’clock to-night Salvation Army officers and soldiers will be present from all parts of the province.
