ATTEMPT TO BLOW OPEN SAFES
SECOND UNSUCCESSFUL EFFORT. (United Press Association.) Wellington, September 19. A second attempt within recent weeks to burgle two safes on the premises of Market Gardeners, Limited, Wakefield street, was made this week. The intruders, who gained an entrance by forcing a window, plugged the safes with gelignite and washing soap. The explosions jammed the mechanism and the doors remained securely fastened. Even if the attempt had been successful, the burglars would have gained nothing, as the management does not leave money on the premises at night.
