SPEED LIMIT EXCEEDED
FIRST PROSECUTION UNDER NEW ACT.

Wellington, September 17. Stated by Mr A. R. Cooper, for the City Council, to be the first prosecution under the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 1936, Patrick Joseph Boyle was charged before Mr Ferner, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, with exceeding a speed of 30 miles per hour on the Hutt road. Mr Cooper pointed out that the Act imposed a limit of 30 miles an hour in. boroughs. A penalty of 10/- and costs was imposed, the Magistrate saying that the case would serve as a warning. Three other similar offenders were similarly punished. ____________
