(By

“Low-Gear.”)

COMING EVENTS. September 19.—17 miles, Roslyn-Myross Bush. September 19.—50 miles, Otago championship. September 26.-66 miles (open), Hedgehope, Mataura, Edendale. September 26. —17 miles (open) Roslyn Bush-Myross Bush. October 3.-56 miles, Southland championship. October 10.—25 miles, Rimu-Woodlands. October 17.—17 miles, Consolation. October 17.—100 miles, Around the Gorges, Christchurch.

The race to-day has drawn a field of 20 riders. The fact that several of the best riders are in Dunedin should give the limit men an opportunity to collect trophies, R. Watt, a recruit, will be making his first appearance to-day. Eleven riders left last night for Dunedin to compete in the Otago 50-mile race to-day. They should be well to the fore, as most are at present very fit. The A team, comprising .C. Robinson, L. Bloy, A. Calder, A. Broad, S. Douglas and R. Dixon, should have a good chance of winning the Teachers Cup. An attractive programme has been drawn up for the Southland 56-mile championship. The trophies are as followes:—

First, challenge cup and £5 5/trophy; second, £3 3/- (trophy); third, £2 2/- (trophy); fourth, £1 1/- (trophy); fifth, 10/6 (trophy); sixth, 10/6 (trophy). Fastest time, sash and £2 2/- (trophy); second fastest time, £1 10/- (trophy). This is easily the best prize list offered for this event, and should attract several entries from Dunedin.

The following are the points for the club’s challenge cups up to last Saturday’s race: Frame Cup (for most points in road and track). —K. Jones 8, R. Aitken 8, S. Douglas 8, W. Frame 7, H. Jones 7, G. Braxton 6, C. A. Robinson 6. Dunlop Cup (most points for road racing).—K. Jones 8, R. Aitken 8, S. Douglas 7, A. Drury 7, H. Jones 7, W. Frame 6.

President’s Cup (most points in road and track race, for first-year riders only).—K. Jones 8, A. Aitken 8, H. Jones 7, C. Orme 3 and R. Young 3. Last Saturday’s race provided a good try-out for riders. A heavy head wind made conditions unpleasant, but most men finished the course in fair time. The finish was exciting. R. Aitken won by a wheel from K. Jones, with A. Broad a similar distance back in third place. L. Bloy, who was fourth, is fast getting fit and should ride well at Dunedin to-day. C. W. Robinson and W. Frame had their usual hard struggle at the finish, Frame winning by half a wheel to register fastest time. His time was Ihr 20 min 23sec.
