Wairio CRICKET CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Wairio Cricket Club. The president (Mr A. W. Sherman) was chairman. The annual report stated:—“Fourteen games were played, and although Wairio was not very high on the aggregate table, each game was enjoyed by the members. The club membership was well maintained and the prospects for the incoming season, with many new members joining, are particularly good.” The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr J. Hogan; president, Mr A. W. Sherman (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Messrs F. Spears, A. Pointon, J. A. Steans, H. C. Bell, J. B. Cutt, G. W. Gardiner, A. Brown, J. Blackwell, J. Egan, E. Crowe, S. Collie, J. Purdue, B. Rushton, J. O’Brien, A. Valli, M. O’Brien and R. Rankin and Dr G. Wood; treasurer, Mr G. W. Gardiner; secretary, Mr R. Latta; auditor, Mr J. A. Steans; committee, Messrs G. W. Gardiner, E. White, N. Bates, C. Ross, J. Watson, H. Barnfield and R. Bates; delegates to Central-Western district Association, Messrs G. W. Gardiner and C. Ross; team’s captain, Mr N. Bates; club captain, Mr G. W. Gardiner; official umpire, Mr M. Forde. Opening day was fixed for October 3. A trophy for the most improved average for the incoming season was donated anonymously and accepted with thanks.
