LOAN SCHEDULE AT WELLINGTON
Cost Of Work At
Rongotai
(United Press Association.)
Wellington, September 18. “It is no use putting a lot of things in our loan schedule which will not be approved by the ratepayers,” said the Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) at a meeting of the Wellington City Council when a discussion arose on the financing of the aerodrome at Rongotai and on drainage works. It was stated that the aerodrome would cost the city £70,000 and drainage £175,000, and the fact that the rate levy was higher this year and would be higher again next year had to be taken into consideration. The Mayor explained that the council had run out of money with which to finish the Rongotai aerodrome, but as a result of negotiations with the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple), it had been arranged that the Government would provide £70,000 on condition, that the ratepayers of Wellington found the other £70,000. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the council to consider what works should be placed on the loan schedule to go before the ratepayers, probably in November.
