MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Invercargill branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Women’s Club. Those present were Mrs Ritchie Crawford, president; Mesdames R. M. Strang, J. D. Mitchell, James Robertson, A. E. Bath, T. Bailey, P. A. Price, L. C. Smith, Roy Hanan, J. Pickard, D. Kilkelly, W. M. B. Veitch, W. Mowatt, E. E. Boyd and the secretary, Miss E. S. Hackworth.

Mrs Mitchell and Mrs A. S. Russell were granted a year’s and six months’ leave of absence respectively. Mrs Crawford said that she regretted very much losing these committee members even for a time, and thanked them for their faithful work on behalf of the society. Mrs Hanan was appointed to take the place of Mrs Mitchell on the buying committee. The secretary was instructed to write to the City Council asking permission to hold a street day as usual. Mrs Crawford congratulated the Bluff branch on its splendid effort to raise funds for building a Plunket room at the Bluff.

The following were appointed visiting committees for next month: Kari-tane-Hunt Hospital, Mesdames Crawford, Jennings, Veitch, Hogg, Pickard and Kilkelly; Anderson Home, Mrs Bath; Gladstone, Mrs Robertson; Rest Room, Mrs Smith; South Invercargill, Mrs Mowatt.

Matron Ingold, reporting from the Karitane-Hunt Hospital, stated that the number of patients in on July 31 was one mother and 10 babies. Four mothers and 12 babies were admitted for treatment, and four mothers and 12 babies were discharged. The number of patients in on August 31 was one mother and 10 babies, and the largest num-

ber in on any one day was one mother and 10 babies. Mothers were admitted from Invercargill, Bluff and Ryal Bush, and babies were admitted from Invercargill, Bluff, Edendale, Mossburn, Ryal Bush, Tisbury and Waipahi. Miss Cecily Smith had completed her training and Miss Margaret Pipson had begun hers. During the month there were 123 visitors to the hospital. The following gifts were gratefully acknowledged: Bootees from the Mataura Women's Institute and knitting from Miss Scott, Mataura.

Nurse Rhind reported that Waikiwi was visited four times, when 47 visits were paid to homes and 77 adults, 68 babies and 11 older children visited the rooms; there were two new cases. Colds had been prevalent among the patients. Reporting from the Anderson Home, Gala street, Nurse Maclntyre stated that the total number of new, cases (town and country) and 48, while the total number at the centre (babies only) was 37. Seventy-four visits were paid to homes where there were new cases, and 457 to homes where there were old cases. The office had been visited by 617 adults, 565 babies and 98 older children. There were 863 babies and 206 older children under supervision. Colds had been prevalent among the patients.’ Nurse Wilson, reporting from the Anderson Home on the sub-branches, stated that Riverton had been visited four times, and 12 visits were paid to homes and 76 adults and 72 babies visited the rooms; there were two new cases. Four visits were paid to Bluff when 29 homes were visited and 69 adults and 65 babies visited the rooms; there were three new cases. Tuatapere was visited five times, when 17 visits were paid to homes and 84 adults and 79. babies visited the rooms; there were four new cases. Otautau vias visited twice, when 11 homes were visited and 21 adults and 21 babies visited the rooms; there were two new cases. Two visits were paid to Orepuki, when three homes were visited and 18 adults and 18 babies visited the rooms. One visit was paid to Ohai, when 13 adults and 13 babies visited the rooms. Nightcaps was visited once, when 10 adults and nine babies visited the rooms.
