ABERDEEN-ANGUS BULLS FOR THE WAIRARAPA
The continued popularity of the Aberdeen Angus cattle among New Zealand cattle breeders is evidenced by the recent arrival from Great Brit-
ain of a number of valuable stud bulls for use in Dominion studs. The latest importation, Jerkin Eric (84649), arrived in Wellington from Great Britain recently. Imported on behalf of Mr R. R. Burling, Woodlands, Masterton, this noted bull was selected through the stud stock department of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., in conjunction with its London office.
Jerkin Eric (84649) (ear tag K.E.J.F. 18) was calved in March 1933, and bred by a famous Aberdeen Angus cattle breeder, Mr J. E. Kerr, of Harviestoun Castle, Clackmannansh, Scotland, his side being Equipment of the Laws (77121). Jerkin Eric is descended directly through the famous Erica family, his dam, Jeka Erica (72127), tracing back to Erica (843) and Old Jock, No. 1 in the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breeders’ Society Herd Book. Jewery Erica, sire Equipment of the Laws, dam by Guardian of Candacraig, a half sister to Jerkin Eric, was judged breed champion and supreme cattle champion at the Doune Show in 1935. Jerkin Eric is a bull of wonderful constitution and type with excellent top line and head; his body is deep and lengthy with great quarters, well covered with good even flesh and carries great finish. An outstanding example of the breed, this bull will undoubtedly prove a great asset to his purchaser and to the breed throughout the Dominion.
