Books have been filmed in the past, But England is now working on a film which deals with books as books, and not with the lives of those folk who live between a book’s covers. This is a documentary film of the book trade, and commenting on it The Evening Standard says:—Rameses, the hammer of the Hittites, has had to wait more than 3000 years to get on the films. He had 100 sons and 59 daughters, but there is no intention of making a picture of his private life. His eminently photogenic features are being incorporated in a film called ‘Preface to Life,’ which- will deal with the history of- books and writing from hieroglyphics and cunieform down to Maugham and Masefield.”
