BATTALION BAND CONCERT

REQUEST PROGRAMME. The Sunday night concerts given by the Band of the First Battalion of the Southland Regiment in recent months have all proved very popular and particularly enjoyable should be the concert in the Civic Theatre to-morrow evening, for a special request programme has been arranged. The programme will open with a lively march, “The Jolly Coppersmith,” followed by the hymn, “Lead Kindly Light,” which will be played in complete darkness, only a fight from the conductor’s baton being visible. Then “In a Persian Market” will be given with full effects by the band. Miss Dorothy Foothead will be heard in popular songs with full band accompaniment. A comet solo, “As You Pass By,” will be played by Bandsman H. Larsen, followed by a bass novelty, “The Characteristic Bassplayer” featuring Sergeant M. Blackie and Bandsmen D. McDermid, L. Walker and J. Dyer. Hawaiian guitar duets will be played by Miss M. Donovan and. Frank Donovan, and Sergeant C. Lemin will play a euphonium solo. “A Bachelor Gay” and “Silver Hair and Heart of Gold” are to be sung by Mr Walter Smith, and Bandsman E. Harvey and Corporal W. Lockett will feature a trombone novelty, “Boss Trombone. Mr J. M. Harvey will play violin solos and the band will make a special feature of the novelties “Whistling Mary” and “Honey-Coloured Moon. Mello-piano solos will be given by Mr R. Raper, and the band’s concluding number will be “The Forge in the Forest,” the part of the smithy being played by Corporal W. Woodley, and the wolf scene acted by Bandsman V. C Durant. Before the close Miss Foothead will give a short vocal recital featuring “When I Grow Too Old To Dream,” “The Sunset Trail” and Cheek To Cheek.” Sergeant C. C. Lemm wdl act as assistant conductor, and Mr .R. Henry will be the official accompanist. Mr J. Harvey and Sergeant M. Blackie will be in charge of the stage arrangements. Admission is by silver coin subscription.
