Misses N. and A. Schmidt, Woodlands, are spending a holiday in Timaru. Mrs A. Gormack, Woodlands, is the guest of her daughter in Dunedin.

Mrs G. F. C. Tanner, Lewis street, leaves to-day to, spend a holiday in Queenstown.

Miss Marjorie Turner, of Christchurch, was married in London this week to Mr James McConnell. Mrs T. A. Nicholson, Herbert street, and Miss Nancy Nicholson, return this evening from a holiday in Honolulu. Mrs H. O. Haggitt, Port Pegasus, has returned from Dunedin and is the guest of Mrs Ritchie Crawford, Don street.

' The Rev. W. E. Lambert and Mrs Lambert, Crinan street, have returned from a holiday in Wellington and Christchurch.

A children’s fancy dress party will be held at St. John’s Girls’ School at 2.30 next Saturday afternoon. Tickets may be obtained at the school. The Woodlands Basketball Club held a successful ball on Thursday evening. Mr James Pye was master of ceremonies and the music was supplied by Halbert’s orchestra.

Guests at the Grand Hotel during the week included Miss M. Hyams (Auckland), Major and Mrs Simons (London), Miss J. K. Skinner (Hawaii) and Mr and Mrs M. O’Brien (Dunedin).

Guests at Hotel Deschler during the week included Mr and Mrs R. Simpson (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs G. Anderson (Christchurch), Miss Harcourt (Athol), Mr and Mrs J. Pears (Etalvale), Miss E. Egan (Timaru) and Misses L. and I. Adamson (Dunedin). Yesterday afternoon Mrs W. W. Butchers, Lewis street, was hostess at a “bathroom” tea in honour of Miss Elinor Jones, Earnslaw street, who is shortly to be married. The others present were Mesdames R. M. HuttonPotts, David Jennings, A. R. Dunlop, J. C. Prain, G. M. Todd, J. L. Hazlett (Gretna Green), N. L. Watson, A. V. Osmond and A. H. Robins; Misses Elizabeth Macdonald, Patricia Hoyles, Lois Douglas, Mary Crawford, Elizabeth Hoyles, Mary Chilwell, Mary Loughnan and Gertrude Macdonald. A gift evening was given Miss A. Fairbairn who is to be married next week, in the Kennington hall on Wednesday. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs H. Mills, Miss I. Henderson, Mr J. Henderson and Mr J. Waddell. During the evening songs were sung by Mr D. Maxwell and Mrs P. Darragh, and a duet was played by Messrs H. Mills and J. Alexander. Mr J. Alexander was master of ceremonies. Mrs Darragh asked Miss Fairbairn and Mr T. Lyall to accept from the residents of the district a table of gifts, with best wishes for their future happiness. Mr T. Lyall suitably replied.
