NAVAL MEN RETURN
AN UNNECESSARY TRIP. (United Press Association.) Auckland, August 13. After an unnecessary but enjoyable trip to Ceylon, 14 petty officers and ratings belonging to H.M.S. Philomel returned by the Wanganella this morning. They left Auckland to proceed to Gibraltar to join the H.M.S. Achilles which was on the way from England to replace H.M.S. Diomede. In Colombo they were informed that the raising of sanctions had released the Achilles, which would probably return to England for overhaul before coming to New Zealand, and the extra men were not required.
