Colac Bay

BASKETBALL The Riverton B basketball team visited Colac Bay to play the home team. Colac Bay won by 12 goals to 10. The Murihiku basketball team played Waipango at Waipango, Wipango being the winners by 4 goals to 3. DANCE The Gummies Bush Farmers’ Union held its annual social and dance in the Colac Bay Drill Hall. Items given by the Colac Bay Maori Party were hakas, poi dances and action songs. Songs were sung by Miss T. Wixon, Miss R. Cleaver, Mr I. Belsham and Mr D. Wixon. A pianoforte solo was played by Miss S. Pearce (Wakapatu). Music for the dance was supplied by the Kapai Orchestra. Extras were played by Mr D. Pearce (Wakapatu) on the bagpipes. At a suitable interval Mr Hopcroft, president of the Gummies Bush branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, made a speech.
