INVERCARGILL CIVIC BAND
CONCERT TO-MORROW NIGHT. AN OUTSTANDING PROGRAMME One of the finest programmes yet submitted to a Sunday night audience will be presented at the Civic Theatre by the Civic Band to-morrow evening. The conductor Mx - A. R. Wills, has always endeavoured to keep up the musical standard of his Sunday programmes and he has been fortunate on this occasion to have the assistance of artists whose musical ability is considerably above the ordinary. A feature of the concert will be the appear- | ance of two outstanding vocalists from the studio of Mr Kennedy Black. Miss I Irene Mclndoe, contralto, who gained her licentiate degree last year, is the possessox- of a beautiful voice of rich quality. Two of hex- songs, Beethoven’s “Creations Hymn” and “My Ships” (Barrett), reveal the beauty of her voice. Mr Noel Derrett, who is also from Mr Black’s studio, is the possessor of a baritone voice of wide range and resonance. He will sing “Invictus” and “The Ringers.” Mr and Miss Batchelor, of Bluff, are two vocalists of outstanding merit and their numbers are certain to be appreciated. Popular numbers will be given by Mrs Matthews and Mr W. Matthews, of the Hawaiian studio, whose numbers always have a strong appeal. Mr G. Wybrow, the popular vocalist, will also contribute items. Mr D. Collie is probably the finest exponent.of the piano accordion heard in Invercargill and his popular numbers are bound to please the audience. The band can always be relied on to do full justice to its programmes. Its four numbers to-morrow evening are of the bright order and will be given with its usual verve and tunefulness. As a very big audience is expected patrons are advised to be early. The management hopes that the donations will be in keeping with the quality of the programme.
