ORPHANS’ CLUB

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Everybody pities orphans, but there is no need to pity the members of the Invercargill Orphans’ Club. At their evening gatherings every second Saturday, dull care finds no place in the Orphans’ Hall; faces are wreathed in smiles and tobacco smoke; music, song and story reign supreme. The meeting on Saturday night proved no exception. A splendid concert programme had been arranged, the orchestra was in its usual excellent form, and the president, Bro. J. H. Reed, successfully demonstrated that his fund of humorous stories was far from depleted. The programme was as follows: Song, Bro. C. Trim; pianoforte duet, Bros. C. Arthur and R. Henry; song, Bro. F. Jones; musical monologue, Bro. L. S. Alsweiler; vocal duet, Bros. A. Lindsay and P. McNamara; song, Bro. P. L. Hodge; junior quartet, Messrs R. Brown, R. Wesney, A. Fraser and K. Kennedy; orchestral numbers. It was unanimously decided to accept the offer of the orchestra to provide the programme for next meeting night
