Dr Kathleen Pih, from the New Zealand Presbyterian Mission Hospital in Canton, is spending her first furlough in London taking a course of study at Moorfields Eye Hospital, states the New Zealand News. She has already been successful in passing her first section of the D.O.M.S. degree. She spent the Easter vacation in Scotland with her New Zealand friends, the Rev. G. S. and Mrs Brown, with whom she toured nearly the whole of the province _of Angus, as well as paying a flying visit to Aberdeen. When Queen Mary takes possession of Marlborough House the gardens there will have been considerably improved in accordance with suggestions that she has made recently. Rock gardens in particular appeal to her and it is hoped to create one of these at Marlborough House. Those engaged in the work find themselves rather hampered by the fact that there is a clause in the original title deeds of the property which lays down that the existing wide expanse of lawn shall not be cut up in any way. Of late years little more has been done to these gardens than to keep them neat and orderly. Queen Mary sent Lady Angela Montagu-Douglas-Scott a blue enamel and silver-gilt dressing-table set on the occasion of her marriage to Lieu-tenant-Commander Peter Dawnay. The Duke and Duchess of York gave two silver sugar castors. The Princess Royal and the Earl of Harewood have given her a petit point evening bag, and the Duke of Kent sent a jade ornament. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester sent their sister a diamond wristlet watch. Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, and Major-General the Earl of Athlone sent a pale green linen afternoon teacloth with napkins to match.
