SWITZERLAND SPENDS ON DEFENCE
LOAN OF £15,000,000. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Berne, June 11. The Council of State has approved a credit of £15,000,000 to strengthen Switzerland’s defences. Half will be devoted to anti-aircraft defences for the principal cities and the remainder to fortifications, armaments and aeroplanes. The defence of Switzerland depends on the national militia, with compulsory service. Fortifications defend the St. Gothard Pass in the south and the Rhone river valley. The army has always been efficient arid for many generations has been constantly in effective condition. The . peace establishment normally under training is 46,200.
