Several acres of newly-irrigated land on the 7500 acre Ahuriri lagoon block, Napier, are now under cultivation. A large section of this area, on the Napier-Taradale road frontage, has been turned over by the plough in readiness for the sowing, on a fairly large scale, of sugar-beet. This plantation work is to be carried out experimentally in the hope that the land may prove good enough for the successful growing of sugarbeat for commercial purposes-
