BATTALION BAND
SUNDAY NIGHT CONCERT. CATERING FOR THE PUBLIC. There can be little doubt that the Sunday night concerts of the Band of the First Battalion of the Southland Regiment have proved more popular than any other concerts of their type held in Invercargill. To what causes is this success attributable? To those who are responsible for the selection of the programme most of the credit for the success of these concerts is due. They have been wise enough to realize the foibles of the great general public, and they have chosen their programmes with subtle discrimination. Lieutenant R. J. Simpson, who has been responsible for many of the novelties incorporated in recent programmes, will again be in charge of the musical programme to be presented at the Regent Theatre to-morrow night.
The programme is as follows:— Entr’acte, “Round about Regent Street,” the band, “Rockingham” (chimes, Bandsman V. C. Durant) and “Slavonic Rhapsody”; songs, “Light as My Heart” and “When You Come to the End of the Day,” Mrs A. E. Longley; xylophone solos, “Aloha Oe” and “O Sole Mio,” Bandsman V. C. Durant; trombone solo “The Trumpter,” Bandsman E. Harvey; Hawaiian quartet, “Drowsy Waters” and “On the Beach.” the Donovan family; “Suite Bohemian,” the band; intermezzo from “Cavalleria Rusticana,” the band; songs, “Good-bye” and “The Border Ballad,” Major D. F. Leckie; corner duet, “Two Comrades,” Sergeants F. Forbes and J. R. Cowley; euphonium solo, “Song of the Volga Boatmen,’ Bandsman C. Lemin; laments, “Home on the Range” and “The Last RoundUp,” Bandsmen F. Donovan, J. Fox and R. Raper; “Welsh Themes,” the band; novelty, “Cheek to Cheek” (from the film “Top Hat”); quartet, “Hawaiian Selections,” the Donovan family; waltz song, “Vienna, City of My Dreams,” the band; novelty, “The Music Goes ’Round and Round,” the band. Mr R. Henry will be the accompanist.
