Miss Dorothy Paterson, Elmwood Garden, has returned from a holiday in Australia. Interviewed by a New Zealand Herald representative on her arrival in Auckland, Miss Paterson expressed the opinion that women in Australia are considering aviation more seriously, than they are in New Zealand. Miss Paterson, who said she likes flying “only for fun,” has an endorsed A pilot certificate and has had considerable experience with light machines. During her stay in Australia Miss Paterson flew from Sydney to Brisbane. She considered that flying conditions in Australia were infinitely more favourable than in New Zealand. Women in Australia took flying very seriously, she said. A number of them owned their own aeroplanes and she had met some women who ran an airtaxi service most capably. Flying was definitely established there, but Miss Paterson considered that what she termed “the club feeling” was not nearly as strong as it was in the Dominion. In Australia each pilot thought only of ways and means of gaining his or her own aeroplane, but the helpful and co-operative spirit was noticeably lacking.
