Mr W. C. Barry, Director of the Livestock Division of the Department of Agriculture, is visiting Invercargill.

Messrs J. Graham (Dunedin), C. V. Dayus (Dunedin), A. McPhail (Wanganui), W. C. Barry (Wellington), and E. S. Phillips (Sydney) are guests at the Grand Hotel.

Messrs T. Dodson (Dunedin), M. Falconer (Waikawa), F. Moseley (Clydevale), J. Manson (Wellington), and T. Woods (Dunedin), are guests at the Club Hotel.

The appointment of Mr Samuel Ritchie, of Invercargill, as Conciliation Commissioner for a period of six months was announced in a Gazette last night.—Press Association.

At the annual meeting of the St. Paul’s Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club last evening Mr J. D. Gilmore was elected club patron. Several members paid tributes to the many services Mr Gilmore had given the club.

Mr R. A. Brown, of the staff of Bing, Harris and Co., Ltd., Invercargill, who has joined the staff of W. H. Boyes, Ltd., was met by his fellow employees and presented with a fountain pen. Mr J. W. Morrison, acting manager, on behalf of the staff wished him every success in his new sphere. Prior to his departure on transfer to the company’s head office, Wellington, Mr S. R. Ayling was met by the staff of the Invercargill branch of the Union Steam Ship Company and presented with a memento of his association with the branch. The good wishes of the staff were expressed to Mr Ayling. Mr J. M. Mitchell, formerly of Gore, has been appointed sole teacher at Lora Gorge. Mr Mitchell was prominent in sporting circles at Gore, being a member of the Citizens’ Tennis Club and a member of the Pioneer Football Club. He also took a prominent part in primary school sporting activities, being secretary of the Eastern Southland Primary Schools’ Football Committee.
