UNIVERSITIES TEAM IN JAPAN. WESTERN STUDENTS DEFEATED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 1.30 p.m.) Tokio, February 11. At the Hanazono field (Osaka) the New Zealand Universities Rugby team defeated the combined Western Universities by 23 points to 8 in a fast and open game. Stace, Wild, Gillies and McAuliffe scored for New Zealand. Trickleback, whose kicking was a feature of the game, converted all the tries and kicked a penalty goal. The New Zealanders were superior in all departments though they committed a number of infringements. The team was as follows:— Tricklebank; Watt. Wild, Grant; Lewis, Gillies; McAuliffe; Laney, Burke, Wilson; Hudson, Simpers, Drake, Stace; Eade. The tourists are now spending a quiet time seeing the sights of Nara and Kyoto before the final test match next Sunday. The team is enjoying the quiet and beautiful surroundings of the old capital after the heavy but delightful programme in Tokio.
