GIRL LAW STUDENT

REMARKABLE SUCCESS. EXAMINATIONS IN LONDON. London, January 18. Miss Ellice Aylmer Hearn, 23 yearold daughter of Dr. Robert Hearn chancellor of Cork Cathedral, was the only one of 221 entrants in the Hilary Term Bar examination to gain a firstclass in constitutional law and legal history. No other woman has ever secured a “first” in these examinations. She won also a special prize of £5O for the best paper in the examination. Miss Hearn was the only entrant out of 176 to gain a first-class in the elements of law of contract and the law of tort. She secured a second-class in criminal law and procedure. Her mother is a doctor, and among her aunts arc two doctors and a civil engineer. Mrs Scott-Carr, the owner of the hotel where Miss Hearn has been staying, stated that the girl had fled from the’ flood of congratulations which began to arrive when the results were announced.
