MUCH IMPROVED

CLYDE STREET PLOTS. Reference to the improvements made to the Clyde street plots appeared in the report of the superintendent of reserves which was before the City Council last evening. Mr Mansfield stated that a considerable amount ,of work had been done on these plots which now presented quite an attractive appearance, enhancing the approach to the city from the south. For a long time they had spoilt the appearance of Clyde street from the junction of Tay and Dee streets. The superintendent added that unless provision was made on the estimates for their future maintenance the time, effort and money already expended would be wasted and within a few months they would again be overgrown and dirty. Filling and top-dress-ing with soil was necessary if they were to be brought into such a condition that cutting might be done with a back delivery machine. Provided this was done the annual maintenance would be about £BO. A clause in the works committee’s report recommended that provision be made in next year’s estimates for a maintenance charge of £BO a year, payable by the Works Department in terms of the superintendent’s report. After some discussion the clause was carried.
