Acceptances for the concluding occasion of D.J.C. meeting are due at noon to-day.

Cuddle won Auckland Cup in record time with greatest weight foi- one of her sex.

The Gore Trotting Club’s Annual fixture yesterday should return a useful profit.

A special train will leave Invercargill for Winton T.C. races to-morrow at 11.15 a.m.

The opening event at Winton Trotting Club meeting to-morrow is timed at 1.5 p.m.

Jonathan established a weight record in winning A.R.C. Railway Handicap at 9.12.

The trotting mare Air Flow has been definitely booked to travel to West Australia.

The best time records for Auckland Cup are held by two mares, both with real weight.

In 1932 Auckland Cup Fast Passage (8.11) made 3.23 4-5. Cuddle (9.0) recorded 3.23 1-5.

Weights for the first day of Southland R.C. Summer fixture are due on Monday.

The Forbury system and place wagering will operate at Winton T.C. fixture to-morrow.

The sixty-second Great Northern Derby will be decided at Auckland on New Year’s Day.

Roi I’Or won the Ashburton Trotting Cup yesterday and scored expenses for his Perth trip.

The Great Northern Foal Stakes winner, Gallio, is a son of General Latour from Prodice.

Mazir, winner of Queen’s Plate at Auckland, is by Whirlwind—The Begum, and a horse, 4yrs.

J. Olsen’s pupil, Shu, did well to finish second to Mazir at A.R.C. meeting yesterday.

Ranking as a four-year-old in New Zealand and a three-year-old in her home land of U.S.A., Mr J. R. McKenzie’s filly Air Flow opened the eyes of southern onlookers in the Gore Trotting Club Cup (2m.) yesterday as to the capabilities of a real American square-gaited trotting juvenile. In a field of 18, she was never near the fence and must have covered a very large extent of extra country on her journey, but in the capable hands of veteran James Bryce she was only beaten half a length for second place in a fast run contest and her time worked out at 4min 35sec. It is easy to imagine that alone on the rails she would have trotted well inside 4.30. Spectators who understood the value of the feat were thrilled yesterday.

A most interesting sale has just been finalized through the agency of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., who have purchased on behalf of Mr John Donald, Westmere, Wanganui, the brood mare, Lambent, by Tractor from Dazzling Light, by Kilbroney from Simper. Lambent was bred and owned by the Southland breeder, Mr W. T. Hazlett, and she is the first of the female descendants of Simper that Mr Hazlett has vet been persuaded to sell. It will be remembered that for a number of years Simper and her daughters were quartered at the Westmere Stud where they were consorts of Mr Donald’s defunct sire, Chief Ruler. Mr Donald was anxious to secure one of the descendants of Simper by Chief Ruler from Mr Hazlett but. as several of these are still racing. Mr Hazlett was eventually persuaded to put a price on Lambent, .vhose sire, Tractor, is. like Chief Ruler, ay The Tetrarch. Lambent is a low set, deep and splendid type of brood mare .aas a lovely filly foal at foot by Colonel Cygnus, the young imported stallion who is now at the head of Mr Hazlett’s* stud, near Invercargill. Lambent was again mated to Colonel Cygnus this year but next season she will visit Mr Donald’s new acquisition, the Phalaris horse, Phaleron Bay. Simper, which famous mare was bred by his Majesty the King, has proved one of the greatest mares in the N.Z. Stud Book and her many descendants include Affectation, Gold Light, Razzle Dazzle (the sister to Dazzling Light), Beacon Light, Ruling Light, Sir Simper etc. Lambent, who was foaled in 1927, should prove to be a very valuable addition to the fine collection of some 30 odd imported Australian and New Zealand-bred mares that to-day comprise the Westmere Stud. ROWING MACANDREW BAY REGATTA. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, December 26. There was a large attendance at the combined Boxing Day regatta at Macandrew Bay and the entries showed a big improvement over those of the last few years. The chief interest centred in the rowing events, in which all the clubs in Otago were represented. The most successful club was the Otago Rowing Club which gained five wins and three seconds. The Port Chalmers Club won two events and the Queen’s Drive Club A handicap sailing race for 14-footers resulted: Winifred (7min) 1, Vai (scr) 2, Betty ,(2min)3.

GORE TROTTING CLUB A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. KEEN RACING WITNESSED. SLIGHT FINANCIAL DECREASES. (By Sir Modred.) Heavy rain during the early morning hours and lighter showers as the day advanced did not promise well for outdoor sporting events, but the state of the weather did not deter southern and northern’ patrons for the Gore Trotting Club’s Annual fixture from turning out in force—the fast special train from Invercargill and a train from Dunedin both appeared to carry more passengers than is usual on Boxing Day. The motor traffic, too, must have been well up to the best previous figures, judging by the huge number of cars parked in the special area devoted to this purpose, but there was a slight leakage somewhere and it is safe to say that it occurred in the home district. However, the spacious enclosures of the Gore Racing Club’s property presented an animated sight when turned over to the light harness sport for one afternoon of the season and it was surprising to learn that the gate receipts totalled £431, as compared with £437 5/- last season, a decrease of £6 5/-. The rain cleared off before the opening event was called on and although the sky was overcast and threatening throughout only two very light downfalls of moisture were experienced and in neither case did they inconvenience or discourage an enthusiastic gathering of followers of trotting. The attendance was swelled by many northern visitors, and with horses from Christchurch, North Otago, Dunedin, Central Otago and various Southland districts meeting to measure strides it can be understood that the sport presented was exciting and of a high quality—times recorded will bear out this contention to a marked degree. The principal event, Gore Trotting Cup Handicap, attracted the very satisfactory field of eighteen starters and there was lusty cheering when the favourite each way, the Gore-trained mare Fairhaven won from two good Christchurch visitors in the promising pacer Full Hand and the imported square-trotting mare Air Flow—the fine performance of the last-named in a jumbling field of hoppled performers coming in for special admiration and comment. The meeting was well managed by the president, Mr John Brown, and his band of eager honorary officials and if punctuality was not the order of the occasion there were mitigating circumstances. This is explained by the fact that greatly admired and recently completed extensive totalisator accommodation was strange to the public and in use for the first time, while huge fields had to be marshalled and the use of the Forbury system and place method of betting also delayed matters. It was therefore found very difficult to cram all demands on official management in the short intervals now permitted between the events by the Rules of Trotting, hence the final event was started about seventy minutes after the scheduled hour, but as the meeting was carried out on a full public holiday the public accepted the position v .hh equanimity. The sport was of a high standard throughout and those pi esent closely connected with it had good things to say of a club and district responsible for the gathering. At the totalisators the Forbury system (two dividends in the ratio of 75 and 25 per cent.) and place method (three prices each of 33 1-3 per cent.) were in operation and the investments for the day totalled £12,936 10/-, as compared with £13,072, a decrease of £135 10/-. There were no large dividends during the day, but in several instances substantial prices were returned in place wagering. _ A mead of praise is due where the secretary, Mr R. S. Green, was concerned, as the general arrangements and smooth working of his department assisted materially to the success of an enjoyable light harness fixture. The following are the detailed results: —

(By Sir Modred.) The track was very firm and fairly fast, but hardly up to its best reputation owing to the roughening influence of a prolonged spell of dry, hot weather. However, the competitors travelled fast in several of the events and to some extent this was due to the improved quality of the performers in general. Mr W. R. Jones, who acted as starter, got his fields well away, but his task was an arduous one, as he had many green pacers and trotters to deal with and these novices caused delay, while the size of several of the fields was all against strict punctuality being observed at the barrier on occasions. Mr Jones made a success of actually getting his charges into line and giving them ample opportunities to get out fairly and squarely, but he might have marshalled the competitors more promptly and will probably do so when he next takes up official duties. The betting on the Croydon Handicap took a wide range. On the win machine Long Island was favourite by twenty-five over Paul Bingen who was fifty-six ahead of Wings. For a

place Clipped Wings was six better backed than Bell Norris with a gap of six to Long Island. Investments.—£6so (win £339, place £311), as against £957 10/- last season. At the start, to saddle, Long Island, Sylvia Moko and then Annie Moko mixed. Appomatox led out from Paul Bingen, Goodwood and Elliotvale, then the latter left his feet. In the straight Long Island moved up, but tangled and stopped Appomatox. At the stands Goodwood was in charge from Bell. Norris, Paul Bingen, Annie Moko and Clipped Wings, with Sylvia Moko closing up. Down the back Goodwood and Bell Norris were together, then Annie Moko. with Sylvia Moko trotting past Paul Bingen, who mixed badly. Goodwood led to the stretch, but tangled, leaving Bell Norris heading Annie Moko, and Sylvia Moko closing up. In a good race from the distance Annie Moko forged, ahead to win by half a length from Bell Norris, with Sylvia Moko, who put in a fine effort over the last half mile a length off third, then at intervals Paul Bingen (fourth), Goodwood, Long Island and Edwin Bingen. ’ It was a fine race over the last furlong and a half between Annie Moko and Bell Norris but the steadiness of the former throughout enabled her to win nicely for her Lumsden connections. She was piloted by her trainer A. L. Budge. Bell Norris moved up smartly early, but had not the staying ability of the winner. Goodwood looked to be a certainty to get into the money turning for home when he tangled. Long Island, who mixed and bucked by the way, trotted very fast in patches.

The Trial Handicap in saddle saw Tritoma elected favourite. For a win he had three tokens more than Pacha who was foui’ ahead of Silver Guy. For a place Tritoma was three better backed than Silver Guy, Pacha thirty-five less backed. Investments: -£ll5l 10/- (win £606 10/-, place £545), as against £1603 last year.

At the start to saddle Carver Doone, Fortune King, Loyalist, Moradine and Worthy Clair commenced badly or tangled. Pacha shot out but broke and Central Derby took charge from Silver Guy, Loyal Sun, and Eglinton. At the stands Central Derby led Loyal Sun, Pacha, Eglinton, and Silver Guy. It was a fine race in the back stretch with Central Derby showing from Loyal Sun, Pacha, Eglinton, and Bill Drusus, while Shandon Chimes was putting in a claim. At the far turn Loyal Sun led Pacha, Bill Drusus, Eglinton, Patricia Derby and Shandon Chimes. Racing to home turn Loyal Sun was attended by Pacha, while Silver Guy was doing well on the fence from Bill Drusus and Shandon Chimes. In the run to the judge Silver Guy stayed best to win by a length and a half from Loyal Sun, with Direct Thorpe, who came fast, a similar distance off third, Pacha fourth, then Tritoma, Shandon Chimes and Eglinton.

Ridden by A. J. McLellan and prepared by A. McLellan, of Invercargill, Silver Guy, a well-bred son of Adioo Guy—Jenny Bell jun., won nicely from Loyal Sun, a promising descendant of Grattan Loyal, while Central Otago horseman, P. Gallagher, squeezed the little fancied Direct Thorpe into third berth and a remunerative place quote. This promising son of Wellington Direct was having his first start and was unlucky to strike early interference.

The Gore Trotting Cup was a splendid betting race with several of the runners extensively followed. To win Fairhaven was one hundred and three better backed than Full Hand, Royal Guy twenty-seven less fancied. For a place Fairhaven was thirty-eight better fancied than Full Hand, Royal Guy four less backed.

Investments: £2203 (win £1279 10/-, place £923 10/-), as against £2222 10/last year. At the start Moko Child, Lindrum, De Soto, Sergeant Dallas, Royal Parade and Vologda did not get away well. De Soto was unlucky. Almost at once Bide-a-Wee tangled and interfered with Lynwood who got off well and was going great guns. The first to show out were Royal Guy and Fairhaven. Going to the back Royal Guy was in charge from Blue Mountain Queen, Fairhaven, Moko Child, Full Hand, Wrackette and Air Flow, with others close up. There was little change to the stands and with a mile to go Royal Guy was still in command from Blue Mountain Queen. Fairhaven, Full Hand, Erin’s Fair, Moko Child, Vologda, Greenmantle, Air Flow and De Soto all within striking distance of the leader. A keen race was in progress in the back stretch with Royal Guy still attended by Blue Mountain Queen, Fairhaven, Full Hand, Erin’s Fair, Moko Child, Vologda, and Greenmantle, but Air Flow had commenced to move up on the outer, trotting perfectly. After rounding the far turn Full Hand took charge from Royal Guy, with Fairhaven improving her position, then came Vologda, while Air Flow was trotting up smartly. Full Hand was first to head for home, but Fairhaven wore him down from the distance to beat him by a length and a-half, while Air Flow got up to within half a length of Full Hand in third place; De Soto, who paced fast over the last three furlongs was fourth, then came Erin’s Fair, Wrackette, Moko Child, Greenmantle, Royal Guy, and Lynwood. It was a very attractive race throughout and there was lusty cheering for the Gore-trained winner Fairhaven, driven by Southland’s leading reinsman J. Walsh, and trained by A. B. Rattray. Fullhand, the Christchurch visitor, paced a stout race into second place. It was thought that he came out too soon from the far turn, but his driver probably noted that the American trotting mare, Air Flow, was coming along and hastened for home well knowing what he had to expect Air Flow was well driven and trotted a perfect race, but Fairhaven and Full Hand were too good on the day. Lynwood was unlucky at the start

Two brackets carried the bulk of the investments for the Telegraph Handicap. . On the win machine the coupled Bright Voyage and Sun Worshipper were one hundred and thirty-four better backed than the coupled Happy Knight and Eighteen Carat, Central Parrish one hundred and twenty-three less favoured. On the place the coupled Happy Knight and Eighteen Carat were eleven preferred to McLellan’s pair, Central Parrish sixty-eight less favoured. The investments totalled £1752 (win £1077 10/-, place £674 10/-), as against £lBBl 10/- last season.

Sun Worshipper tangled and interfered with Bright Voyage when the barrier was released, while Happy Knight and Norrie Rack (struck trouble) failed to get away welt Ozanam darted out quickly followed by Master Lee, Central Parrish. Royal Palm, and Eighteen Carat. There was little change down the back. Racing across the top Ozanam was clear’ from Royal Palm and Master Lee in company. Ozanam led into the straight from Royal Palm, with Master Lee retiring, then came Central Parrish and Eighteen Carat. From inside the distance the four leaders joined issue. In a great finish Central Parrish got up to win by half a length from Eighteen Carat, with Ozanam a similar distance off third, while Royal Palm was a neck away fourth. A mix-up at the start was unfortunate, as it extinguished the chances of the heavily supported Sun Worshipper and Bright Voyage. The pace was fast over the first half-mile—round about lmin 7 2-ssec —with the result that the four participants in an exciting finish were very tired. P. Gallagher rode a vigorous race to spatch

success for Central Parrish, a smart five-year-old gelding from Kurow. Eighteen Carat paced very pluckily into second berth, aftd Ozanam just failed to carry on over the last half furlong despite the nice lead smartly established by his rider J. McLennan.

The public declared for Parrish Chimes in the Mataura Handicap. For a win he had two hundred and sixtynine admirers more than Anna’s Voyage who was ninety-eight ahead of Sylvia Moko. For a place Parrish Chimes was one hundred and eleven better backed than Anna’s Voyage with a gap of twelve to Sylvia Moko. Investments: £1441 10/- (win £839, place £702 10/-), as compared with £1442 last year. Several of the trotters failed to strike a gait at the start, including Happy Peter, Burns, Mocking Bird and Appomatox. Anna’s Voyage got away with marked celerity from Sandy Drusus, Patty Todd, Edwin Bingen and Gipsy Lee. With a mile left behind Anna’s Voyage -was just leading Sandy Drusus by enough to swear by. then came Edwin Bingen and Gipsy Lee, while Parrish Chimes was moving up fast from the rear. Down the back Anna’s Voyage retained his lead from Sandy Drusus, while Parrish Chimes was in third berth with Edwin Bingen. When the home bend was reached Sandy Drusus looked to have a slight advantage from Anna’s Voyage, as Parrish Chimes closed up and Edwin Bingen made a skip. In an exciting battle from the distance Parrish Chimes stayed best to beat Anna’s Voyage by a bare half length, with Edwin Bingen a length away third and Sandy Drusus close up fourth, then came Sylvia Moko, .fatty Todd, and Gipsy Lee. . The winner made up his ground steadily from 60 yards and trotted a very game race to win narrowly. Anna’s Voyage stepped splendidly throughout, but was not quite good enough. Despite mixing ’by the way Edwin Bingen raced welt Sandy Drusus trotted like a gelding who might be improved into a winner, and useful free-legged performer.

There was no mistaking the favourite for the Stewards Handicap. For a win Harold Guy was one hundred and sixty better backed than Gold Valley who was forty-four ahead of Walter Gay. For a place Harold Guy was thirty-seven preferred to Gold Valley, the coupled Seaward de Oro and Tritoma fifty-five less backed. Investments: £1449 10/- (win £745; place, £704 10/-), as against £1521 last season. Guywin failed to leave the mark. Seaward de Oro was slow away. Worthy Claire was first to break the line from Walter Gay, Gold Valley, Bright Logan, and Harold Guy. At the stands, with a mile to go, Walter Gay was just showing from Worthy Claire, attended by Gold Valley, Harold Guy, Tritoma, Norham Lady, and Glen Lady. At the back Worthy Claire led Walter Gay, with Gold Valley and Tritoma next followed by Harold Guy and Glen Lady, while Seaward de Oro was moving up fast. Racing across the top Worthy Claire was under pressure from Walter Gay, Tritoma, Harold Guy and Seaward de Oro. At this stage Walter Gay broke and Gold Valley was interfered with. Then Seaward de Oro lost her driver. Worthy Clair then led Tritoma, Harold Guy into the straight, with Gold Valley moving up again. In the stretch Gold Valley finished fast. Staying best in over the final stage Harold Guy won by threequarters of a length from Tritoma, with Gold Valley half a length off third, then came Bright Logan (fourth), Stalwart. Labour Chimes, Glen Lady, and Worthy Claire. Gold Valley appeared to be the unlucky contestant as he was going well when he met with interference. The winner is a useful son of Adioo Guy and is trained by the consistent mentor J. Maconnell for the Western District owner, Mr D. McFarlane.

A good favourite in Golden Mist was found for the President’s Handicap. Foi- a win he had sixty-one tickets more than Radiant Gold, who was one hundred and eight ahead of Belle Grattan. For a place Golden Mist was eighteen bettei’ backed than Belle Grattan, Radiant Gold two less selected. Investments: £2024 10/- (win £ll5l, place £873 10/-', as compared with £1751 last season. On moving off Blue Spark. Single Lee and Embark were slow to strike their gaits and Belle Grattan broke up. Donalda led out from Seamark and Royal Palm, then came Mishap. At the stands with a mile to go Donalda was followed by Golden Mist, Seamark, Royal Palm, Mishap. Chief Drusus, and Mountain Lad. As the field streamed down the far side Donalda was still in charge, but Golden Mist had moved up close from Royal Palm, Embark, Mountain Lad and Chief Drusus. Crossing the top the four leaders in close order were Donalda, Golden Mist, Embark and Royal Palm, with a big gap to Mishap, Mountain Lad and Chief Drusus. Approaching the final bend Golden Mist dashed to the front and drew right away to reach the stretch and score pulling up by four lengths from Royal Palm, with Donalda a neck off third, Chief Drusus well up fourth, then Mountain Lad, Blue Spark, and Mishap. The winner, a very promising four-year-old gelding by Rey de Oro—Nan Brent, and trained at Oamaru by the veteran mentor J. Henderson, came south with a high reputation, which he duly bore out as the easiest winner of the' day. It was a very smart performance to pace twelve furlongs in 3.23 1-5 and Royal Palm did well to gain second berth in 3.25 1-5.

The Christchurch trained Full Hand was the main selection for the Final Handicap. For a win he had thirty-five supporters more than Lynwood, who was two hundred and nineteen ahead of Greenmantle. For a place Full Hand was seventy-three better backed than Lynwood, with a gap of ten to Frank Mac, Greenmantle twenty-two less fancied. Investments: £2137 (win £1195, place £942), as against £1693 10/- last season. Shortly after the start Red Spear (C. Low) fell and Sergeant Dallas (E. Mitchell) fell over him, while Lynwood was seriously interfered with and lost his chance. Erin’s Boy and Bingen Wrack were the early leaders. Racing to the .back Frank Mac took charge from Bingen Wrack, Full Hand, Erin’s Boy, Greenmantle, and Blue Mountain Queen, Crossing the. top Frank Mac was clear from Bingen Wrack, Greenmantle and Full Hand running in close order. Frank Mac led into the straight from Bingen Wrack, Full Hand, Greenmantle and Erin’s Fair. Getting a nice run on the fence, Full Hand shot out just inside the distance to cut down the leaders and win by a length from Frank Mac. with Bingen Wrack half a length off third, attended by Erin’s Fair (fourth) then came Greenmantle, Blue Mountain Queen, Vologda and Erin’s Boy. Full Hand got a great rim on the rails, but he is a pacer above the average and might have won in any case. Descended from the maternal line of that great square trotter Michael Galindo, by Galindo (imp.), he resembles the square-gaited performer in some respects. The early mishap put a good horse in Lynwood .out of court, and the Wyndham-trained pacer was decidedly unfortunate, as in both his starts during the afternoon he met with interference. C. Low, driver of Red Spur, who came to grief, was taken to hospital quarters for observation, E. Mitchell, driver of Sergeant Dallas, was severely shaken, but did not appear to be otherwise injured, ,
