GERMAN PROFESSOR

AUTHORITY ON OBSTETRICS. UNSUITABLE TIME FOR VISIT. (Per United Press Association.) Stratford, December 20. The statement yesterday by Professor Fraenkel, of Germany, an eminent authority on obstetrics, that the suggestion that he deliver lectures in New Zealand was not welcomed by the University authorities, was referred to to-day by Dr Doris Gordon, secretary of the New Zealand Obstetrical Society. Dr Gordon said the statement that lectures were not wanted was incorrect. The Australian authorities had communicated with Professor Fraenkel pointing out that it was impossible to arrange the lectures in the Christmas season. Dr Gordon’s first advice of the Professor’s arrival was on December 6 and no direct advice had been received from the Professor. Under the circumstances no action was taken by the society. The science of obstetrics is international, added Dr Gordon, and the society regrets that a distinguished visitor is unable to come to the Dominion at a season when members could benefit by the visit.
