The road i over the hill takes an easy grade, and it is intended to gravel the surface almost immediately. The new route will shorten the journey from Lumsden to ! Invercargill by about five miles, j The construction of the flood bank | on the Oreti River at the north end I of the township has been completed, and it is hoped that the work of erecting groins as a further precaution against flood will be commenced at an early date.
