WAIHI HOSPITAL
STAFFING DISPUTE. DISCUSSION IN COMMITTEE. (Per United Press Association.) Waihi, November 6. The question of confirmation of the appointment of Dr Archibald Jenkins as medical superintendent of the Waihi Hospital following the resignation of Dr L. R. Hetherington, came before a special meeting of the Waihi Hospital Board. Letters from the Minister of Health and Director-General of Health, Dr Watt, were considered. The latter suggested before dealing finally with the board’s recent application for approval of the appointment of Dr Jenkins that the matter be reconsidered by the board with a view to determining whether it would not be possible to reinstate Dr Hetherington as superintendent. It was considered, continued Dr Watt, unless the suggestion were given effect to that the board will continue to find itself faced with extreme difficulty in obtaining medical and nursing assistance to enable the work of the hospital to be properly carried out. whereas the difficulty would disappear if Dr Hetherington resumed his duties. The meeting in committee discusbed the suggested proposals of Dr Watt with Dr Hetherington and arrived at a certain decision not available to the Press for confirmation at a meeting of the board next Tuesday.
