ATTACK ON RECORD
ENGLAND-AUSTRALIA FLIGHT.
KINGSFORD SMITH HOPS OFF. (United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) London, November 6. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and Mr T. Pethybridge left Lympne for Australia at 6.27 a.m. The permissible load of petrol from England was 138 gallons, which will enable them to cover about 1100 miles at a cruising speed of 190 miles an hour, but when in Europe they may take on additional petrol. If the early stages of the flight are satisfactory Sir Charles intends to try for the record. His ambition is to reach Melbourne by noon on Saturday, Australian time, which would beat Mr C. W. A. Scott’s record.
