Health in the Home
(By a Family Doctor.)
The subject of cold baths forms a perennial topic for amusement and discussion. Different people have different methods of taking a cold bath. Some believe in a sudden plunge and complete immersion at once. This method is all right for young people who react quickly to the shock. Older people should not nlunge into a bath, either hot or cold, immediately on rising. A man can shave first and a woman has various toilet matters to occupy her for five or ten minutes. This little wait gives the circulation time to get normal after the sudden change of position from the recumbent posture in bed.
The cold bath is invigorating provided that it is followed by a good reaction. However, many people will persist in taking a cold bath even when it makes them feel tired for the rest of the day. These people should take the chill off the water before immersion.
