Social Round

Mrs A. McCarthy, Duke street, is at present on a hurried visit to Auckland.

Miss Hope Pinckney, “Shoreford,” Waimatuku, visited town yesterday.

Mrs J. Niven, of Macandrew Bay, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs P. A. de la Perrelle, Park street, Winton.

Miss Nonie Story, Venlaw, is spending a holiday in Christchurch where she is the guest of Mrs M. Manning.

Mr and Mrs J. W. Smith, “Shirley,” Holywood Terrace, and their family have returned from a visit to Pembroke.

Mr and Mrs Adamson Dudley, of Auckland, who are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Kennedy, Nith street, visited Cascade Creek during tire weekend.

Miss Joan McGregor, of Athens, Georgia, America, who is at present visiting relations in Southland, returned to Mount Linton on Saturday after being the guest of Mrs J. A. Hamilton, Bluff, for a few days. On Saturday afternoon a sale of work was held in St. Paul’s Sunday School,,

Dee street, tvhen the stalls were organized by and were under the care of the Busy Bees, the Girls’ Auxiliary and the P.W.M.U. The function, which was declared open by Mr J. S. Baxter in the absence of the Rev. C. J. Tocker, proved to be a success. Miss Helen Mackay, of Invercargill, is staying at Bournemouth for the present, but she will be back in London in the new year, and hopes to be in New Zealand again in a few years’ time (says the London correspondent of the Otago Daily Times, writing on October 12). Miss Mackay is to be married to Mr E. D. McNeill, of London, and formerly of Invercargill. The honeymoon of the Duke of Gloucester and his bride will necessarily be a brief one, as his Royal Highness is due shortly to begin his course at the Staff College at Camberley. The talked-of visit to Kenya Colony may be ruled out. Some part of the honeymoon will be passed in Scotland. Here bride and bridegroom have had several residences placed at their disposal. A flying visit to the Continent is also discussed. Neither the Duke nor his future Duchess has any great liking for Paris. They will join the Royal Family party at Sandringham for the Christmas holidays.
