LUMSDEN NOTES

THE WEATHER. (From Our Correspondent.) During the month of October rain fell on 11 days. The greatest fall was on the 19th when 70 points were registered. The total fall for the month was 2.51 inches compared with 2.2lins for the corresponding month of last year. The weather generally during the first half of the month was of a most boisterous nature, the chief characteristic being the prevalence of strong north-westerly winds reaching gale force on several days. A considerable amount of damage was done to buildings as a result of the severe gales. On the eighteenth snow fell to the depth of 2 inches on flat. The weather improved during the latter part of the month refreshing showers proving beneficial to the gardens and pastures. On Saturday the Lumsden tennis team met Freshford B at Lumsden and the result was a win for Lumsden by 11 sets to 5 and 114 games to 87. On Friday evening a large audience greeted the entertainment arranged by the Five Rivers Concert Pai-ty. As a result of the effort the funds of the local school committee should benefit considerably. Colonel James Esson, Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge, paid a visit to Lumsden during the week-end when he met a large number of Brethren of the local lodge. The Rev. W. Comber left on Monday for Wellington where he will attend the meeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.
