A farmer on the outskirts of Geneva sold a cow to another farmer in the Canton of Vaud, 15 miles away. After a few days he . was informed by the owner that the cow had vanished. Ten days passed, * and the cow reappeared at his farm, lame and emaciated, having walked home alone. Mahogany logs have been known to fetch more than £lOOO apiece on the open market, while a single stump of black walnut, 10ft long, found in Virginia recently fetched £BOO. Ordinarily, however, the choicest kind of walnut tree, used for making gramophone and wireless cabinets, costs Jrom £BO to £lOO.
