BLUFF NOTES
REGATTA COMMITTEE. (From Our Correspondent.) Already Bluff’s forthcoming annual regatta (the port’s premier sporting event) is being discussed; and as the annual meeting in connection with same has been set down for next Saturday, preliminary work will soon be entered upon. On Saturday evening a meeting of the committee was held, when the president, Mr. V. Metzger, presided over the following: Messrs G. Long, W. Johnson, Cj. Hunter, T. West, J. Drake, J. Forde, /\. E. Budd, C. Barry (secretary). Lea vie of absence was granted to Mr P. Smith. Local oarsmen are taking advantage of the good weather to get in practice and on Saturday quite a number of crews were out. It was intended to select the crews for the club races at the week-end and these interesting events will be speedily set going, as a lead up to the more important regatta fixtures. W.C.T.U. Tire monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held in Willard Hall in ’Friday, when there was a good attendance. The president (Mrs Jack Walker) presided and opened the meeting with a, prayer and reading. It was announced that the sum of £3 had been handed by the treasurer to the Mayor’s Relief Fund as a result of the Band of Hope concert on October 18.
During the meeting the Rev. A. E. Waite and Mr E. A. Nichol were received as a deputation in connection with the Health Stamp Campaign. They were welcomed by the president and an address was given on the campaign by Mr Waite. It was agreed to support the committee in its efforts and to hold a street day on November 15 as a means of raising funds for the same. '
