Although she was hurled from her car and fell on the road heavily, striking her head against a kerbing, a woman who was involved in a railway crossing smash at Inglewood on Friday morning escaped with only cuts. The woman was Mrs A. J. Dobbyn, and she was accompanied by her 11-year-old son. She was driving a baby car along Rata street from the west and she was almost across the line when the car was struck by the engine of the Wel-lington-bound express. The car was so far across .the line that it was carried scarcely the width of the road by the engine. It was thrown clear and turned over. Mrs Dobbyn was hurled out of the car and struck her head on the kerbing. From this terrifying experience she escaped with only superficial cuts on the head and a severe shaking. The vehicle, which came to rest on its side facing the opposite direction, was completely wrecked, the rear portion being twisted to an almost unidentifiable shape. The boy was un- I injured. j
