Filming Shakespeare

A TERRY FOR THE FILMS. Mr Basil Dean has announced his intention of filming “Twelfth Night” and “The Tempest” if the financial end, which he is trying to work out, should prove feasible. He is hoping for some definite cooperation from representatives of the stage. “I don’t think any country has a preemptive right in Shakespeare,” he said, “but England can bring his plays to the screen as they should be done. May be in Colour. “If colour is really efficient by the time we are ready to make our first Shakespearean picture we shall make it in colour.” Mr Dean believes that with the cooperation for which he asks Shakespeare can be produced with a fine cast of names. It may be pointed out that “Twelfth Night” has already been mentioned as the subject which Max Reinhardt is considering for his next Hollywood picture. Mr Dean remarked that neither that nor the public reception of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (to be shown next month) would affect his plans. A Terry for the Films. Seventeen-year-old Hazel Terry, grand-niece of Eileen Terry and daughter of Mary Glynne and the late Dennis Neilson-Terry, is to make her first screen appearance. She will be the aristocratic heroine of a Rafael Sabatini French Revolution story, “The Marriage of Gorbal.” Nils Asther and, possibly, another Hollywood actor will be in the picture, as well as Hugh Sinclair. It is to

be directed by Karl Greene, of “Abdul 1 the Damned” fame, and will be made 1 by the Capitol Film Corporation. ! Castle “Location.” , The same company is making the 1 new Jack Buchanan picture, “When 1 Nights were Bold,” with Fay Wray as 1 heroine. Scenes for this picture are j being shot at Warwick Castle. Richard ’ Tauber in “Pagliacci,” is next in their I programme. <

Regarded by critics as Conrad Veidt’s greatest film, “The Passing of the Third Floor Back,” a screen version of the famous Jerome play, recently was completed in England. Other members of the cast are Mary Clare, Rene Ray, Beatrice Lehmann and Sara Allgood.

Herbert Marshall must be a big success as partner to Sylvia Sidney. They are together in “Morning, Noon, and Night.” Now another picture is planned for the two. It is “Accent on Youth,” adaptation of a successful Broadway play. Paramount paid £12,000 for the film rights. They will start work immediately the other film is finished.
