Gore Meat Slaughterings. During the month of October 18 cows, 120 bullocks and heifers, 2 calves, 392 sheep and 4 lambs were slaughtered at the Gore abattoirs. One bullock was partially condemned. New Council Chambers. Last evening’s meeting of the Gore Borough Council was the first to be held in the new chamber, the renovations of the Town Hall being sufficiently advanced to allow portion of the building to be used. The chamber is a commodious apartment, being finished with figured panelled timber to a height of seven feet with, white plaster for the upper portion and ceiling. Elevated desks are provided for the Mayor and the Town Clerk and the councillors are accommodated at a semi-circular table. The Mayor and councillors expressed satisfaction with the new premises. Councillors subsequently complained that the acoustics of the chamber were very bad and the Finance Committee was instructed to endeavour to have the matter improved. 0—O—o Mataura Seat. The Democrat candidate for Mataura, Mr A. T. Newman, opened his campaign at Pine Bush on Saturday evening. The candidate received an attentive hearing, and on the motion of Mr J. Gilkison, seconded by Mr W. Andrews, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The candidate also addressed the electors of Glenham, there being 60 present. Mr Templer was chairman. Mr Newman again received an attentive hearing, and on the motion of Mr Walter Bennett, seconded by Mr A. Lynn, a hearty vote of thanks for his interesting address was carried.
