HIGH PRAISE

BLIND INSTITUTE BAND. The following are extracts from Press reports on the recent concerts given by the Blind Institute Band which is visiting Invercargill to-mor-row: The Wanganui Chronicle: “Each performer is an expert with his instrument and it is rare that such a talented combination of blind people is to be heard at one entertainment. These lads are a talented company. They radiated happiness from the stage and their music was appealing in every sense.” Feilding Star: “A rare musical treat. Extraordinarily well organized the band was completely at ease with every number rendered and its finished work reflected the utmost credit on the performers as well as those responsible for the training. The items by the dance orchestra were brightly handled and the humorous numbers set . the audience rocking with laughter. The Majestic Theatre proved all too small to accommodate the crowd and by eight o’clock the upper part of the building was full, while at 9.30 tickets were still being bought for standing room only on the ground floor.” Manawatu Daily Tinies: “The talent of the musicians was apparent in every presentation, whether concerted or of a solo nature, and some fine selections of instrumental music were offered. The whole programme was finely rendered and demonstrated the great abilities, as well as the assiduous training, of the performers.” Manawatu Evening Standard: The renderings as a whole were a revelation of beautifully balanced harmony, and finished artistry. Individual performers would have been difficult to single out, even in the several particularly clever novelty musical numbers.” The Evening Post: “An inspiration—it was not sympathy that brought the applause with which each item was received, for it was music artistically played. Many of the members are highly-skilled musicians, whose solo items would colour any concert programme. The dance band of six instruments, which is frequently engaged for dances and balls, showed that it was capable of taking its place on any floor.” , , r. -nJ Reservations at H. and J. Smith s.
