MR HISLOP’S ACCUSATIONS.

To the Editor. Sir, —Whatever the merits of his policy I must protest against Mr Hislop’s unbridled charges against the present Government for corruption and bribery. This is over the odds altogether even for an election campaign and has not an atom of truth.

Many people differ as to the wisdom of the present Government’s policy, but I think every reasonable and sane elector agrees that the Cabinet is not corrupt. Yet Mr Hislop has said that they are “more corrupt than corruption itself.” This is nothing but a poisonous slander on our public men who are doing their best, and I feel that I must record a protest in the interests of clean politics. Until Mr Hislop took the platform these attacks on the personal honesty of their political opponents have been notably absent as between Labour and Government. It is left to Mr Hislop and his organizer to bring in this sort of dirty work. —I am, etc., LITTLEJOHN.
