POLITICAL TRIPE.

' To the Editor.

Sir, —Speaking of his 45 colleagues wonderful courage when they voted for the Sales Tax, Mr Hargest likened this brave deed of himself and his party to the soldier facing a battery of machine-guns and all the rest of the nice machines of destruction which were very much in evidence in the Great War. Now, Sir, for a man of Mr Hargest’s standing to get up at a meeting and compare a man or. body of men sitting in padded seats, in Parliament, enjoying all the social comfort of spring-cushioned seats, etc., to a man facing inevitable death and destruction beats the band. At best or worst all the whole 45 members would lose is their political seats in Parliament, and if Mfr Hargest considers that a braver deed to lose than one’s life, he evidently places very little value on a Digger. Such political tripe and nonsense would be better left unsaid. —I am, etc., P. BATCHELER. Bluff, October 30, 1935. [Mr Batcheler does not value moral courage highly.—Ed. S.T.]
