Gilbert then kicked a wonderful penalty goal from almost half-way. New Zealand 7, Newport 0. Exciting play continued after the resumption. Mitchell, with a swerving run, beat half his opponents and passed out to Ball, who made a great effort before being tackled. Then Tindill, standing deep behind a scrum, dropkicked a goal, making the feat look very easy and placing the All Blacks in a safe position. New Zealand 11, Newport 0. McKenzie surprised his team-mates when he took a mark and drop-kicked a goal. New Zealand 14, Newport 0. The All Blacks rallied strongly in the final stages.
