While being exercised on the beach at New Brighton, the champion pacer Harold Logan and his stablemate Llewellyn’s Pet were caught recently in treacherous quicksands and had a narrow escape from being completely overwhelmed. The horses were trapped slightly off the beaten track. The more they struggled the more involved they became, and sank deeper until their position became sufficiently bad to cause their owner' to think about shooting Llewellyn’s Pet. With the tide flowing the fate of the two horses was in the balance, but by chance they floundered on to a firm patch of ground, and were saved. Llewellyn’s Pet was a trifle stiff for several hours, but ate an overdue meal and was none the worse for her adventure. Harold Logan was lame for a day, but recovered.
