An English writer discussing State assistance to farmers, stated that little could be expected of Governments. “That their efforts were about as much use as would be a regulation providing for the compulsory crossing of cockatoos with carrier pigeons, so that they could deliver verbal messages.” The kind of sow that any farmer would be pleased to own is in the possession of Mr L. Brookland, of Milford, Auckland. It recently produced a litter of 19, after having previously had litters numbering 19 and 14.
