CARNIVAL AT BLUFF
AWARUA BOATING CLUB. OPENING EVENTS. (From Our Correspondent.) The streets were crowded last night when the Awarua Boating Club’s carnival began with a wheelbarrow derby in Gore street, for which there was a large entry. The event resulted as follows:—First heat: J. H. Johnsen and T Denny 1, M. Molloy and L. Hawke 2. Second heat: R. Barnett and T. West, jun., 1. A. Low, jun., and Allan Low 2. The final will be held to-night. A large crowd assembled in the Town Hall when the.first round of the tug-of-war competition was decided. The finalists are Maoris, Footballers, Watersiders, Carriers, Borough Council and Awarua Boating Club, the final to be decided to-night in the Town Hall. The Watersiders’ Band and the Bluff Pipe Band were in attendance last night and helped to make the occasion an enjoyable one.
