SAFETY FIRST
PEDESTRIANS ON ROADS. USE OF RIGHTHAND SIDE. (Per United Press Association.) Nelson, August 13. After referring to the national “safety first” campaign, Dr S. A. Gibbs, president of the Automobile Association (Nelson), at a meeting moved the following remit to go forward to the South Island Motor Union: “That on country roads where there are no footpaths available, pedestrian traffic must keep to the righthand side and face the oncoming traffic, and that in the event of accidents arising from breaches of this provision the onus for the accident should lie upon the offending pedestrian.”
The motion was carried, the president remarking that it was a start.
