Mrs P. R. Stewart, of Milton, arrived on Monday to spend a holiday with her sister-in-law, Mrs J. A. Stewart, Ocean Beach.
Mrs K. Muirson, Ness street, is a visitor to Christchurch for race week and is the guest of Mrs J. H. Sherlock, Papanui. Mrs J. McCormick, Herbert street, has returned from Palmerston, where the death of her mother, Mrs J. McCabe, occurred on July 24.
On Monday afternoon Mrs R. JGilmour, Herbert street, was hostess at tea in honour of her sister-in-law, Dr. J. Wyman Pilcher, of Vancouver. Mrs Macfie and Miss Anne E. Robertson, of Dunedin, were the guests of Mrs B. B. Jones, Dee street, Gladstone, while Miss Robinson exhibited her needlework pictures at the Women’s Club.
Miss Margaret Ross, McMaster street, leaves on Saturday for Auckland, where she joins the Niagara to sail next Wednesday on a visit to Canada and the United States before proceeding to England. Yesterday afternoon Matron Sparks, of St. Helens Hospital, gave an interesting and instructive address on the “Well-being of Young Children” to members of the Mothers’ Club of the Kew Kindergarten. Miss Beverley Mitchel, Leet street, left on Saturday for Dunedin, where she was joined by her aunt, Miss Doris McHutcheson, who accompanied her to Christchurch for race week. They are guests at the United Service Hotel. To-morrow afternoon at 3 o’clock and again on Friday afternoon at the same time, and at 9 o’clock in the evening, mannequin parades will be held in the Federal tea rooms, showing the exclusive “Joy” designs in lingerie. The designs feature made to measure underwear and include night attire of all kinds.
